Faculty Information

Thanks to the 'last' principal of SHHS, Vincent Carr, for the following information.

In thinking about those who shared the responsibility with me for the students of South Hill High School, I noted from the 1986 yearbook the listing of the faculty and staff at that time and their years of service. As you can see, many spent many years at South Hills. Certainly, those who stayed with the ship to the end are to be commended.

With the closing of South Hills High School, the faculty and staff who remained after the five year march to the closing in June 1986 were reassigned to other schools throughout the Pittsburgh School District or, in some cases, retired. Sadly, during the 29 years since the school closed, a number of our colleagues and students have  passed away. I would encourage those who were students during the years leading to the closing to submit information on students from this time period (or any time period for that matter) to the Sesame News to be included in the regular listing of deceased students.

To my knowledge the following faculty and staff members have passed:

  • Mr. Francis Haggerty, Principal
  • Mr. James Cichra, Teacher /Vice-principal
  • Mr. Roger Davis, Vice-principal
  • Dr. Elizabeth Youngue, Vice-principal
  • Mr. Harrly Haus, Vice-principal
  • Mr. David Duessel, Teacher, Mathematics
  • Mr. Albert Loomis, Teacher, Mathematics
  • Mr J. Reed Wherle, Physical Education, Coach
  • Mrs. Mary J. Holley, Chief Clerk
  • Mrs. Kitty McRoberts, Secretary
  • Mrs. Phyllis Masciola, OVT Coordinator
  • Mr. William Carroll, Teacher, English
  • Mrs. Mary Jox, Teacher English
  • Dr. C. Delores Parrish-Lane, Teacher, English
  • Mrs. Evelyn Lieberman, Teacher, English
  • Mr. Alfred Rebersak, Teacher, French
  • Mr. Paul Swacus, Teacher, Business
  • Mr. Arthur Innamorato, Teacher, Business
  • Mr. William Schmitt, Teacher, Physical Education
  • Mr. Donald Lansberry, Teacher, Music

We certainly mourn their passing, but pause to offer thanks for their dedication to the students of South Hills High School. I apologize for anyone who may have inadvertently been included in this listing and certainly regret having missed any of our colleagues not included in this listing. If you can add to this list, please submit any information to The Sesame News to jansparker@bellsouth.net.
